Vikings Set School Record With 7 Goals in Win Over Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State set a program record with seven goals, all coming in the first half, to earn its first win of the season, 7-0, over Chicago State on Sunday afternoon at Krenzler Field.

CSU improved to 1-0-1 this year, while the Cougars fell to 0-2.

Kaila Sargema and Chloe Fadenholz scored two goals each, while McKenna Vento and Stacie Morris both dished out two assists.

Sargema got the CSU offense rolling with a goal nine minutes into the match off a Vento assists. Sargema would make it 2-0 at the 21:47 mark when she knocked in a cross from Vento for her second goal of the match.

Freshman Abby Ramirez netted her first collegiate goal at the 36:47 mark to start a string of five CSU goals over the final eight minutes of the half. Haleigh Shingary had the assist on the goal with a cross into the box.

Fadenholz made it 4-0 less than a minute later with a goal off an Erin O'Toole assist and Megan Barrick scored two minutes later with a blast from 30 yards out that hit the crossbar and dropped down for a goal.

Fadenholz added her second goal of the half with just under three minutes to play, taking a pass over the top from Stacie Morris and chipping a shot over the Cougar goalkeeper to make it 6-0.

Katie Bainbridge had a left-footed blast from the top of the box with less than a minute to play to round out the scoring.

The Vikings out-shot the Cougars, 28-0.

The Vikings are back in action on Friday (Aug. 28) when CSU travels to Eastern Kentucky for a 5:00 p.m. match.
