DETROIT, Mich. - The Cleveland State women's soccer team dropped its Horizon League opener, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Detroit.

The Vikings fell to 5-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the league, while Detroit improved to 3-4 this season and 1-0 in league play.

It marked just the third time this year that the Vikings gave up multiple goals with the other two times coming on opening weekend (Aug. 22-24) during CSU's two matches in California.

The Titans took a 1-0 lead at the 35:17 mark, taking advantage of a CSU foul inside the box where Alyssa Lotito scored on a penalty kick. The goal, which was the first given up by the Vikings since Sept. 7, snapped a streak of 333 consecutive minutes without CSU allowing a goal.

The Titans would hold the lead until late in the game when Kaila Sargema netted her second goal of the season with just 2:12 to play off an assist from Sabrina Abram to tie the game at 1-1.

Playing their second overtime match in the last three contests, the Vikings surrendered the Golden Goal to Jennifer Borawski just 2:12 into the extra session.

CSU held a 12-6 advantage in shots, including a dominant 9-1 in the second half, and took nine corner kicks to three for UDM.

Sarah Wood notched three saves for the Vikings, while Marina Manzo tallied five to earn the win for Detroit.

CSU is back in action on Saturday (Sept. 27) when the Vikings host Valparaiso at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
