MIAMI, Fla. - In a game that was shortened to 73 minutes due to lightning, the Cleveland State women's soccer team fell at Florida International, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops CSU to 2-4 this season, while FIU improved to 2-3.

The game was delayed for almost 90 minutes due to lightning strikes in the area and did not kickoff until close to 2:30 p.m. After 28 mintues of play in the second half, the game was once again halted because of lightning and then called for good with 17 minutes to play.

"We are just not doing the gritty work right now," head coach Derrek Falor said. "We are not marking well, tracking players or winning the 50-50 balls. We are chasing 80 and 90 yards all over the field and need to get tougher. The intensity has to be better, especially in the middle third of the field and we will have to do a better job during the week to raise the level of intensity.

"I thought Marissa (Sarsfield) did a nice job making her second start at center back and Shea (Levi) defended well and fought hard all afternoon."

FIU got on the board just 13 minutes into the match on a goal from Ashleigh Shim off an assist from Kim Lopez. It stayed that way until Shim scored off an assist from Alyssa Robinson in the 53rd minute.

FIU held a 15-7 advantage in shots as CSU sophomore Sarah Wood made four saves. Paula Zuluaga made one save to earn the win.

The Vikings, who finished a four-game road trip with today's match, return to Krenzler Field on Friday (Sept. 13) when CSU hosts UMass-Lowell at 7:00 p.m.
