CLEVELAND, Ohio - Shelly Ford, a four-year letterwinner at Jefferson Area H.S., has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cleveland State women's golf program beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.

Head coach Steve Weir made the announcement on Thursday (Nov. 19) afternoon.

"We are happy to have Shelly join our program and look forward to her helping take our program to the next level," Weir said. "She is a tremendous athlete with a good, solid swing. She does a lot of little things well on the course and on top of all that, she is a solid student in the classroom."

Playing for coaches Scott Treen Sara Dean, Ford earned four letters in helping Jefferson Area to league titles in each of her first three seasons.

A district qualifier in each of her four seasons, Ford was a first team all-league selection in her first three seasons and became the first girl's golfer from Ashtabula County to earn a berth at the Ohio state golf tournament when she qualified as a junior and senior.

She was named the Star Beacon Ashtabula County Girls Player of the Year this past season, averaging 39.0 shots per round for the second straight season.

An academic letterwinner and member of the National Honor Society, she was the Star Beacon Ashtabula County Scholar Athlete as a junior and senior.
