Linksters Head to Indianapolis for Butler Invitational Sept. 22-23

The Cleveland State men's and women's golf teams will venture to Indianapolis, Ind. to partake in the Butler Invitational at Eagle Creek Golf Course. Both teams will play similar schedules at the tournament, opening up with 36 holes on Monday, Sept. 22 and playing the final round of 18 on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Last September, the men's squad finished seventh out of 10 teams, carding a 898 (297-301-300) Eagle Creek. Senior Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennan) led the Vikings with a 213 (70-73-70) for third place overall.

Women Finish Ninth at Lady Falcon Intercollegiate
The women's golf team opened its 2003-04 season, finishing ninth at the Bowling Green Lady Falcon Invitational on Sept. 13-14. The Vikings shot a rounds of 346 and 355 for a total of 701 at the Forrest Creason Golf Club on the campus of Bowling Green. Sophomore Kristen Obush (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) paced CSU with a 164 (84-80) to finish 20th. Junior Tori Kastl (Hinckley, Ohio/Medina) trailed Obush, shooting a 174 (82-92) for 44th place overall. Grand Valley State edged out Toledo in a playoff after finishing tied at 619. The individual title also came down to a playoff, as Oakland's Mara Mazzoni defeated GVSU's Melissa Sneller after both carded a two-round total of 147.

Men Place 12th at John Piper Intercollegiate
The men's golf team shot a final round 304 at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Sept. 16 to place 12th overall with a 927 total. The Vikings finished only six strokes behind Horizon League rival Youngstown State (313-317-291---921) at the par-72 Stone Ridge Golf Club. Senior Billy Houle (Joliette, Quebec/Georges Vanier) paced the Vikings, shooting a 78 in the final round to card a 226 (74-74-78) for 22nd place. Freshman Mike Rutgers (Kingsville, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) trailed Houle by two shots, posting a 228 (82 72-74) for a 25th-place tie in his first tournament with the team. Oakland dominated the tournament from the start, carding a 292-282-296---870 to finish 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Bowling Green. Colin Christie of Butler edged out Brian Stuard of Oakland by one shot to take individual medalist honors with a 70-72-71---213.
