CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State student-athletes Katie Broere (golf), Jessica Burt (softball), Rob Fox (tennis) and Phil Orno (tennis) were voted to their respective Horizon League Academic All-League team which were announced on Monday (Aug. 2) afternoon.

A communications major with a 3.68 GPA, Broere left the program as one of the top players in school history, earning first team All-Horizon League honors in 2009 and 2010. She played 90 career rounds and holds the CSU record for career scoring average (81.9). Broere also recorded three of the top four single season scoring averages in CSU history, including the record of 78.5 in 2008-09.

Burt, who sports a 3.31 GPA as a psychology and communications major, bounced back from a knee injury that sidelined her for the 2009 softball season to hit .337 (65-193), with 44 runs scored and 27 RBI. She set the school record with 18 doubles with two home runs, while her 28 stolen bases were fifth in program history.

Fox and Orno were both named to the academic all-league team after excelling in the classroom while helping the men's tennis squad to its third straight Horizon League Championship and NCAA tournament bid.

Fox posted a 28-10 singles record and went 25-17 in doubles. During the fall season, he teamed with John Haley to advance to the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships, the furthest a team from CSU has ever advanced at the tournament.

Orno was named to the first team All-Horizon League team for the fourth straight season after leading the team with 29 victories at the No. 1 singles position. He also won 27 doubles matches.

Orno's selection to the all-league first team allowed him to become the fifth player in league history to earn the honor in four consecutive seasons. He graduated from the program after winning a school record 99 career singles matches.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League teams in each of its 19 championship sports.

To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
