CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team was honored for its performance in the classroom when the Vikings were one of 25 teams to receive the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team award on Monday.

The Vikings were tied for the ninth highest grade point average among Division I teams with Cameron University at 3.62.

CSU was the lone program from the Horizon League to be among the top-25.

The University of Indianapolis has the highest GPA at 3.752.

"This is a well-deserved honor for the women's golf program and reflects the standards that our student-athletes are striving to achieve," head coach Steve Weir said. "It is an honor for me to have such well-rounded young women in the program who are excelling both on the course and in the classroom."

The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.

Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
