CLEVELAND, Ohio - Recent Cleveland State graduates Katie Broere (Bracebridge, Ontario) and Laren Beese (Massillon, Ohio) were both named to the National Golf Coaches Association Division I All-America Scholar Team that was announced on Monday.

The duo became the first women's golfers in school history to earn the honor.

"Katie and Laren are both very deserving of this honor because of their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom," head coach Steve Weir said. "They epitomize what a student-athlete should be and the entire program shares in the joy of this accomplishment."

A communications major with a 3.68 GPA, Broere left the program as one of the top golfers in school history, earning first team All-Horizon League honors in 2009 and 2010. She played 90 career rounds and holds the CSU record for career scoring average (81.9). Broere also recorded three of the top four single season scoring averages in CSU history, including the record of 78.5 in 2008-09.

Broere, who led the team in scoring average in each of her final three seasons, also claims the lowest round in school history, firing a 72 in the second round of the Northern Illinois Invitational on March 14, 2008.

Beese, who graduated in May with a 3.81 grade point average as a marketing major, concluded her career with the fourth best scoring average in school history (85.9).

She finished second on the team in scoring this past year, averaging 83.3 in her 24 rounds, including a season-low round of 77 in the first round of the Appalachian State Invitational.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics.

Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50, while competing in at least 50-percent of the school's regularly scheduled competitive rounds for the year.

A total of 494 women's college golfers in Divisions I, II & III received the honor.
