Golf Teams Enjoyed Spring Break Trip

April 12, 2011

Our men and women golf teams were definitely spoiled with nothing but great weather, lots of golf and great memories for our spring break 2011. After a huge snowstorm that was likely to delay our flight out of Cleveland the following day, we could not believe we arrived in the warm weather of Jacksonville, Florida on time. The weather for the duration of our trip was sunshine and upper 70s.

We competed in a dual match against Butler on Saturday, which was also our practice round. It was nice to finally be playing outdoors on the actual grass.

On Sunday, both teams had the opportunity to play at TPC Sawgrass where "The Players Championship" tournament takes place. Coach Weir had previously worked with the head pro at TPC, and he was generous enough to give us a tour of the whole clubhouse. It was a great experience and we all really enjoyed it. TPC Sawgrass is famous for its seventeenth hole, which is an island green. It was pretty impressive that our whole women's team made it on the green in one shot! That is definitely a memory we will have for the rest of our lives.

Monday and Tuesday we competed in the Don Benbow Invitational at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. We all didn't post the scores we were hoping to at the tournament, but we had to realize it was our first one of our spring season and we all saw the things we needed to work on. The guys played well coming in third place overall.

It was nice to play and practice for fun on Wednesday and Thursday. We were able to mix the groups up putting the guys and girls teams together. We had so much fun playing with the guys team, and they were nice enough to give us tips and advice. Overall, this spring break was a ton of fun, and we look forward to improving throughout this spring in order to play some solid golf at conference!
