Women's Golf Earns Tenth Place Finish in Spring Opener

The Cleveland State women's golf team opened up their spring 2002 season in Jacksonville, Fla. on March 12-13 at the North/South Women's Collegiate. The Vikings shot a 503-475---903 in two rounds at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

Freshman Nancy Bowling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lebanon) paced the team with a score of 113-107---220 and a 52nd place finish overall. Senior Jen Varhola (Mentor, OH/Mentor) finished seven strokes behind Bowling carding 53rd place score of 128-99---227. Senior Marlayna Jacinto (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst L. Steele) completed the tournament with a 109-125---234 for 54th place.

Oakland University won the event with a score of 329-316---645. The team was lead by individual winner Cheryl Tooshkening and second-place finisher Mara Mazzoni who tallied scores of 78-74---152 and 75-84-159 respectively.

The Viking women's golfers will next hit the links on March 25-26 when they particiapte in the Butler University Women's Invite at Prestwick Country Club in Indianapolis.
