AKRON, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a school-record 312 and Ariel Sparrow fired a 73, one shot off the school record, to help the Vikings move up one spot and finish fifth of seven teams at the Zippy Invitational on Tuesday.

The 36 hole event was played at the par-71, 5,833-yard Rosemont C.C.

The Vikings rebounded from yesterday's first round 349, improving by 37 shots today, and breaking the old school record of 315 set in the second round of the Marshall Invitational on Oct. 9, 2008.

"This group of girls really showed a lot today," head coach Steve Weir said. "After yesterday's round, they could have easily packed it in with today being the final round of the fall, but they came out and put together a school record round. That shows the competitive spirit that this team has and how they won't settle for anything.

"I thought overall this was an outstanding fall season. All seven of our players broke 80 at some point this fall and all seven either set or tied their career low rounds. If everyone continues to work hard and grow and mature as players, I think we have the ability to have a special spring."

Sparrow led the Vikings today with a career-low round of 73, one shy of Katie Broere's school-record round of 72 set at the Northern Illinois Invitational on March 14, 2008. Sparrow's 73 was tied for the second lowest round of the day, allowing her to finish tied for 16th place at 162 (89-73).

Madeline Kaminski followed her first round 85 with a 78 today and placed 20th at 163 (85-78).

Lisa Barber and Colleen Miller both shot 81 today, while Colleen Miller carded an 80.

Playing as an individual, Steff Camarata carded a career-low tying 79, while Shelly Ford shot 82 today, also as an individual.

"This was a great way to end the fall season, but we can't lose our focus as we head into the winter and prepare for the spring," Weir said. "This is a great round for us to build on and we will continue to work hard in preparing for the spring season."
