COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cleveland State shot an opening round 349 and is in 10th place after the opening round of the 2010 MAC Preview being played at the par-72, 6,173-yard Longaberger G.C.

Akron is serving as the host school for the 36-hole tournament that features 10 teams.

"This is a great field and an opportunity for us to get some rounds in at a tough golf course and allow us to see where we are at," head coach Steve Weir said. "I know our score might not be there right now, but we have been doing a lot of good things and I see the potential for us to be a very, very good team.

"We are making a lot of birdies and now we have to cut down on our mistakes and limit our double and triple bogeys."

Freshman Madeline Kaminski is tied for 41st in the individual race after a round of 86, while sophomore Ariel Sparrow and freshman Shelly Ford are both one shot back, tied for 46th, after each shooting 87.

The final round of the event will be played on Tuesday. It will be the last round of the fall for the Vikings.
