FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Cleveland State carded a school-record 318 and is in ninth place out of 11 teams after the first round of the IPFW Fall Classic on Monday. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 5,995-yard Deer Track Golf Course.

CSU's 318 bettered its previous low round of 320 set in the second round of the Youngstown State Invitational on Sept. 10.

Mallory Wyderka was CSU's top finisher as she is tied for seventh place after equaling the school-record for lowest round with a 74 (35-39). Katie Broere is tied for 15th after a 76 (38-38).

"Mallory and Katie had outstanding performances today," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "Overall, we played pretty well as a team, but we still left some shots out on the course as the conditions were ideal for scoring today with little wind. We have to go out and play better tomorrow and hopefully move up the standings a bit."

IUPUI leads the 11-team field after a first round 296. The Jaguars hold a four-shot lead over IPFW (301), while Butler and Tennessee Tech are tied for third place at 302. Detroit shot a 306 and rounds out the top-five.

Individually, Kellie Marshall of IUPUI carded a five-under-par, 67 (34-33) to open a commanding four-shot lead over three others.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 9:00 am.
