FISHERS, Ind. - Cleveland State sophomore Madeline Kaminski shot a career-low 74 and the Vikings carded a team total of 324 and are tied for 10th place out of 14 teams after the opening round of the MAC Preview.

The 36 hole event is being played at the par-72, 6,127-yard Hawthorns Golf & Country Club..

"I feel that we are very close to breaking through as a team," head coach Steve Weir said. "The talent is there and now it is just a matter of everyone putting it together at the same time.

"I thought Madeline played lights out today. She had a great ball striking round, didn't make mistakes and rolled some nice putts on the green."

Kaminski shot a 36 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine. Her 74 is tied for the third lowest round in school history and the lowest since Katie Broere shot a 72 in October of 2008 at the Marshall Invitational.

She is one of five players tied for fourth place overall, one shot out of the lead that is shared by three players who all shot one-over-par 73.

Sophomore Micaela Cronin is tied for 22nd place after a first round 79.

As a team, the Vikings are tied with Ohio in 10th place after both squads shot 324.

Eastern Michigan and Toledo are tied for the team lead at 305.

The final round of the MAC Preview is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 11).
