REDFORD, Mich. - Cleveland State struggled to a 346 first round total at the Detroit Invitational on Monday at the par-72, 5,995-yard Western Golf & Country Club.

"It was a frustrating day overall," head coach Steve Weir said. "We just couldn't get anything going. It was pretty hot and I think the team got tired as the day wore on, but that's not an excuse. We need to come out and play better tomorrow."

Oakland fired an opening round 320 and sits atop the leader board by eight shots over Dayton and Youngstown State. Detroit is in fourth (334) with CSU and Green Bay (380) rounding out the six-team field.

Oakland's Austin McDermaid shot a five-over-par 77 and leads the individual race.

CSU's Laren Beese and Mallory Wyderka are tied for 19th after both shot 85.

The event concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:00 am.
