HURRICANE, W. Va. - Cleveland State shot a school-record 315 in the final round of the Marshall Lady Herd Classic on Tuesday morning and finished in 10th place out of 12 teams. The 36-hole event was contested at the par-72, 6,036-yard Sleepy Hollow G.C.

Tuesday's round was 40 shots better than CSU's 355 during Monday's first round.

"I don't know what to say," head coach Steve Weir said. "We took a completely different approach today and finally got the results that we know we are capable of getting. It was nice to see the girls put a good, solid round together. We missed some short putts too, so I think we could have gone even lower, but I can't complain to much. I am proud of how the team responded after the opening round.

Junior Katie Broere fired a final round 73, one shot from equaling her school-record, and finished tied for third place at 154 (81-73). Senior Mallory Wyderka tied for 41st with rounds of 89-78 (167).

"Katie played a great round today and really had a nice all-around tournament," Weir said. "She is putting together the fall season that we had hoped for. She is hitting the ball extremely well and her putting has been pretty solid."

All five of CSU's golfers that counted in the scoring improved from Monday's score by at least eight shots.

Towson won the team title with rounds of 316-304 (620), four shots better than Radford (319-305) and Cincinnati (307-317) which tied for second at 324.

Hannah Coles of Radford earned medalist honors with rounds fo 75-73 (148) by one stroke over Towson's Morgan Reich (76-73 - 149).

The Vikings will conclude their fall season when CSU competes in the Austin Peay Invitational on Oct. 20-21.
