Vikings In 10th Place After Opening Round of Lady Head Classic

HURRICANE, W. Va. - Cleveland State shot an opening round 355 and is in 10th place after the first round of the Marshall Lady Herd Invitational on Monday.

The two-day, 36-hole event features 12 teams and is being played at the par-72, 6,036-yard Sleepy Hollow G.C.

"We just didn't have anything going today," head coach Steve Weir said. "The weather was ideal and the course was in great shape so there are no excuses. We need to come back tomorrow and have a solid round."

Junior Katie Broere led the Vikings with an 81 and is tied for 20th place. Mallory Wyderka and Brittany Keiter each shot 89 and are tied for 55th place.

CSU will begin the final round 22 shots behind ninth place Florida Gulf Coast.

Cincinnati is the leader after round one, totaling a 307 for a two-stroke lead over Southern Mississippi.

Anna Camtell of Cincinnati and Virginia Espejo carded rounds of 73 and share the first round lead.

The final round is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning with a shotgun start.
