HUNTLEY, Ill. - Cleveland State finished seventh at the Huskie Classic with a 36-hole total of 673. Butler ran away with the team title, lapping the 11-team field by 20 strokes. Hosted by Northern Illinois for the 21st year in a row, the event took place at the 5,896 yard, par 72 Whisper Creek Golf Club.

The Bulldogs were not bothered by the rain and lightning that delayed the finish of Monday's first round until early Tuesday morning. Butler posted a 604 to easily out-distance runner-up Northern Iowa (624) and Northern Illinois (637).

The race for medalist was much closer as Butler's Paige McCracken carded a five-over par, 149 to edge Detroit's Mandi Dupuis by a single stroke. A group of four players finished four shots back in a tie for third. Kristen Obush was CSU's top finisher, turning in a 164 to tie for 21st. Ashley Davidson used a team-low 78 in the opening round to earn a tie for 25th at 166.

"We really battled today, but we still have a long way to go on our putting," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "I'm also looking for someone to step up with some consistency at the bottom of our lineup. However, I was pleased with how we competed overall."

After two weeks off, the Vikings are in action again on Oct. 17-18 when they take part in the IPFW Fall Classic at Deer Track Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
