Vikings Place Third at Youngstown State Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cleveland State placed third of five teams at the Youngstown State Invitational on Monday at the par-75, 5,962-yard Firestone Farms G.C.

The event was orignally scheduled to be a one-day, 36 hole tournament, but was cut short due to high winds.

The Vikings totaled 346, finishing behind Youngstown State, which won the tournament at 323,a nd Bowling Green, which fired a 327.

St. Francis (Pa.) was fourth at 353 and Niagara was fifth at 420.

"It was tough to play today with the high winds, but we can't use that as an excuse because everyone had to play in the same conditions," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "We need to learn to stay mentally tough when we face some adversity and hopefully we can learn from this experience moving forward."

Senior Katie Broere led the Vikings, tying for ninth place with an 84 (40-44). Freshmen Annie Teicher and Lisa Barber tied for 12th place as each shot 86.

Teicher shot 39 on the front and followed that up with a 47 on the back, while Barber carded a 42-44.

The Vikings will be out of action Oct. 5-6 when they compete in the Zippy Invitational in Akron.
