HINCKLEY, Ohio - Cleveland State shot an opening round 320 and is in third place out of 11 teams after the first day of the CSU Invitational. The 36 hole event is being played at the par-73, 5,908-yard Pine Hills G.C.

The Vikings are just one shot behind second place Bowling Green (319) with Oakland leading after a first round 302.

"We left some out there today, but overall I am pleased with the way the girls are progressing this fall," head coach Steve Weir said. "We are right in the mix and need to come out tomorrow and post another solid round and see what happens."

Sophomore Shelly Ford fired CSU's low round of the day, carding a 78, and is tied for 11th place overall. Sophomore Madeline Kaminski shot an 80 and is tied for 15th, while juniors Ariel Sparrow and Lisa Barber are tied for 18th place after rounds of 81.

Kassandra Komma of Oakland leads the field after an opening round one-under-par 72.
