SALEM, OH - Cleveland State sophomore Katie Broere shot a career-low 75 in Monday's second round to help the Vikings card a school-record 320 in the final round of the Youngstown State Invitational at the par-72, Salem Hills Golf Course.

Broere, who shot an 81 in Sunday's opening round, wound up in a tie for second place in the individual race, while the Vikings tied for fourth as a team. Her 75 on Monday was one stroke shy of tying the lowest round in CSU history set two times by Kristen Obush (Sept. 15, 2005 and Oct. 18, 2005).

CSU, which shot 329 in Sunday's first round, tied for fourth place with IPFW with a school-record tournament low of 649.

"You couldn't ask for a better start to the season," CSU assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "To shoot a school-record today and post a school-record for the tournament is a testament to how hard the team has been working. Things are looking very good for this season."

Julie Pouliquen of Dayton claimed medalist honors by three shots with rounds of 77-76 (153). Broere finished in a four-way tie for second at 156 with Mollie Boney and Kathryn Rogner of Youngstown State and Alison Rathsman of IPFW.

The host Penguins outdistanced the nine-team field and claimed the team title with a two-round total 629 (312-317).

Dayton finished second at 635 (324-311), while Detroit placed third with a 639 (319-320).

CSU junior Mallory Wyderka tied for eighth place at 159 (79-80).

The Vikings will return to action at the Western Illinois Autumn Invitational on Sept. 16-17. The event will be played at Harry Mussatto Golf Club in Macomb, Ill.
