Obush Finishes Sixth To Lead CSU At Horizon League Championships

CARMEL, Ind. -- Cleveland State senior Kristen Obush closed her Viking career out in fine fashion on Tuesday (May 2), shooting a final round 81 to finish in sixth place at the 2006 Horizon League Women's Golf Championships, which was played at the 5,990 yard, par 72 Plum Creek Golf Club outside of Indianapolis.

Cleveland State finished fifth as a team with a 54-hole 1,038 total, three strokes behind fourth place Detroit. Led by the sister duo of Lynnsey and Lauren Showers, who finished tied for the individual lead with 233 totals, Butler claimed the team title with a 936 total. Lauren Showers went on to claim medalist honors on the first playoff hole.

Obush, who was named to the All-Horizon League team for the fourth consecutive year, shot rounds of 85 and 76 on Monday before battling windy conditions to post an 81 in the final round on Tuesday.

"Kristen has been the foundation of the program over the last four years. She has helped put us on the map," head coach Tom Porten said. "It's a great honor for her to be named all-conference for four straight years. I couldn't ask for a more committed, dedicated student-athlete. We're really going to miss her next year."

Freshman Ashley Davidson (Canton, OH/North Canton Hoover) was second on the CSU squad, shooting a final round 85 to finish in 18th place with a 255 total. Sophomore Amanda Glatfelter (Fairfield, OH) was 19th with a 265 and junior Lexi Retzer (Stow, OH/Cuyahoga Falls) and senior Mollie Porter finished tied for 22nd with 278 totals.
