LEBANON, Ohio - Cleveland State stands in a tie for third after the opening day of the Horizon League Championship. After 36 holes, the Vikings are at 684, and trail first-place Butler by 18 strokes. Freshman Katie Broere is tied for fourth place at 166, just four shots out of the lead, while sophomore Mallory Wyderka is tied for eighth at 169.
Butler leads Detroit by just two strokes (666-668) at the par 72, 6,007 yard Shaker Run Golf Club. The Vikings are tied with Youngstown State, while Loyola is in fifth at 694.
Butler's Lauren Showers and Detroit's Mandi Dupuis are tied for the individual lead at 162, with Butler's Niki Garden close behind in third place at 164. Broere and the Bulldogs' Paige McCracken are two shots further back in fourth.
The championship concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
