Vikings Finish Fourth at Horizon League Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Cleveland State shot a final round 335, its lowest round of the tournament, and finished fourth of eight teams at the Horizon League Championship.

The 54-hole event concluded on Sunday at the par-72, 5,877-yard Mission Inn Resort.

CSU had opened the first two rounds carding 344 and 336, finishing with a 1,015 total.

Butler won the league championship with a 54-hole total of 984, while Detroit and Loyola shared runner-up honors at 1,009. CSU was fourth and was followed by Youngstown State (1,024), Green Bay (1,038), Valparaiso (1,058) and UIC (1,071).

Madeline Kaminski and Ariel Sparrow led the Vikings as the duo tied for ninth place at 253. Kaminski improved each round with scores of 87-84-82, while Sparrow shot 83-86-84.

Colleen Miller placed 14th, one shot behind her two teammates at 254 (86-81-87), while Lisa Barber was one shot back at 255 (88-85-82), also improving on each round. Shelly Ford had three straight rounds of 89 and finished in 31st at 267.

The league championship concludes the 2011-12 season for the Vikings.
