LEXINGTON, Ky. - Cleveland State senior Katie Broere placed sixth at the Horizon League Championship to earn a spot on the all-tournament team as the Vikings placed fifth of seven teams on Sunday at the par-72, 6,062 yard Kearney Hills G.C.

Broere was also a first team All-Horizon League selection for the second straight season.

In addition, freshman Ariel Sparrow was named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, becoming the first player in school history to earn the award.

"We were just never able to get anything going all weekend," head coach Steve Weir said. "It was great to see Katie end her career on such a high note with a spot on the all-tournament team. Her and fellow senior Laren Beese have done a lot to help build this program and we will miss both of them for the impression they left on this program.

"It was also nice to see Ariel get honored by the league. She really grew a lot as the season progressed and was very deserving of the honor."

CSU opened with a 331 on Saturday morning before concluding its second round today with a 341. The Vikings fired a 339 in today's final round.

Detroit won the title at 943 and was followed by Youngstown State (952), Butler (957), Loyola (977), Cleveland State, Green Bay (1,020) and Valparaiso (1,167).

Sparrow tied for 16th at 249 (85-84-80), while senior Laren Beese placed 23rd at 256 (83-85-88).
