LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Cleveland State women's golf team shot an opening round 331 and was in fifth place out of seven teams after the opening round of the Horizon League Championship on Saturday at the par-72, 6,062 yard Kearney Hills G.C.

The second round began in the afternoon, but was delayed due to inclement weather. Most teams had finished the front nine before play was suspended for the day. The second round will resume at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday and will be immediately followed by the final round.

"There were some tough conditions out there today and we never really got anything going as a team," head coach Steve Weir said. "Tomorrow will be another long day as we'll be playing about 25 holes or so. We'll go back, get some rest and hopefully come back and get on a little roll tomorrow."

Senior Katie Broere opened with a 78 in the first round and was tied for sixth place when play was suspended, 11 shots off the lead.

Senior Laren Beese opened with an 83, while freshman Ariel Sparrow carded a first round 85. The duo was tied for 17th place when play was suspended.
