FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Cleveland State shot an opening round 351 and is in fourth place out of six teams after the first day of the IPFW Invitational that is being played at the par 71, 6,042-yard Pine Valley Country Club.

Detroit leads the field after a first round 328 and is followed by Western Illinois (330), Chicago State (340), Cleveland State, IPFW (365) and Trine (451).

"Today was not an easy day on the course as we had to battle winds up to 30 miles per hour," head coach Steve Weir said. "High winds like that can really effect your game, but I thought we did a good job of staying focused and were able to get around the course. This team continues to improve each and every time we take the course."

Sophomore Ariel Sparrow is tied for sixth place overall after carding an 83, just five shots out of the lead. Sophomore Lisa Barber shot an 86 and is tied for 12th place.

The final round of the event will be played on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
