FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A trio of Cleveland State golfers shot an opening round 83 and the Vikings shot 338 and are tied for fifth place out of 10 teams at the IPFW Spring Invitational that began on Sunday at the par-71, 6,042-yard Pine Valley C.C.

Sophomores Micaela Cronin, Shelly Ford and Madeline Kaminski all shot 83 and the trio is tied for 17th place overall.

Four golfers shot 78 and share the lead after the first round.

Indianapolis shot a first round 322 and holds a five shot lead over Chicago State (327) heading into the second round. They are followed by host IPFW (331), Detroit (334), Cleveland State (338), Nebraska Omaha and Valparaiso (339), SIU Edwardsville (340), Lewis (342) and Green Bay (353).

"The standings are tight after the first round so we will have to come out and play another solid round in order to maintain our position or move up," head coach Steve Weir said.

Playing as an individual, freshman Colleen Miller joined the CSU trio in 17th place with a first round 83.

The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played on Monday with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.
