AVON, Ind. - Cleveland State carded a first round 338 and is in fifth place out of nine teams at the Butler Spring Invitational being played at the par 72, 5,980-yard Prestwick G.C.

The Vikings are just six shots behind fourth place Dayton, eight shots back of IUPUI and Loyola who are tied for second and 11 strokes back of Butler which leads the tournament after the first day.

"We played very well today as a team, a big improvement from our first tournament a few weeks back," head coach Steve Weir said. "We knew coming in that with such a young team we would take some time to grow and mature, but everyone has been putting in a lot of work and the results showed today. We played with a lot of poise and confidence and I expect this group to continue improving as the season progresses."

Sophomore Ariel Sparrow fired a first round 80 and is tied for fourth place in the individual race. She is seven shots out of first place, three shots out of second place and two shots out of third place.
