TAMPA, Fla. - Cleveland State's women's golf team opened the 2008 spring season by playing in the opening round of the Northern Illinois Snowbird Invitational at Pebblecreek Golf Course on Thursday morning.

The Vikings shot a 338 as a team in the opening round and are in sixth place out of eight teams.

"We were a little nervous at the start because it was our first tournament of the spring," assistant coach Nathan Miklos said. "But we were able to hang in there after the rough start and keep it together. We played pretty well down the stretch and hopefully we can build on that in tomorrow's final round."

Mallory Wyderka led the Vikings with an 80 on Thursday, while Kim Dulski fired an 81.

The second and final round is slated for Friday morning.
