PROSPECT, Kentucky - The Cleveland State women's golf team wrapped up its opening tournament on Tuesday, climbing two spots from Monday to finish eighth out of 11 teams. The Vikings finished +64 following a 54-hole two-day event (313-313-302, 928).
"Our players really produced some great golf on a course that was playing tough today," said head coach Taylor Riggs. "Meg Rossouw's round of 70 was absolutely brilliant - a personal best for her - which is always very exciting. We made impressive strides on the course that we will certainly carry with us into our next event."
As a team, the Green and White notched a 302 score on Tuesday, tied for the third-best score on the day.
Junior Meg Rossouw jumped up 26 spots on the leaderboard on the final day of the tournament with a career-best 70 (-2) in the final 18 holes. Rossouw finished the day with five birdies sitting in 13th place out of 71 total golfers. Overall, the junior shot +13 in the two-day tournament (79-80-70, 229).
Fellow Viking Kaylee Neumeister finished just one spot ahead of Rossouw in 12th place at the Nevel Meade Collegiate. The senior finished with an overall score of 228 (74-77-77, +12). Despite dropping two spots from Monday to Tuesday, Neumeister maintained the top spot for the Green and White in the team's opening tournament.
Madison Butler moved up one spot on the leaderboard on Tuesday to finish the event tied for 20th. Butler finished Tuesday +4 (78) in the final 18 holes, tallying an overall score of 232 (76-78-78, +16).
Ashley Knight (+23) and Lexi Knight (+24) finished tied for 34th and 38th place, respectively, while Olivia Swain (+38) finished tied for 62nd.
Cleveland State will compete next Monday (March 29) and Tuesday (March 30) at the Colonel Classic at the University Club at Arlington.
