Vikings Make Third Appearance at Shirley Spork Invitational

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland State women's golf team returns to play at the Shirley Spork Invitational on the Eagle Crest Golf Club course. Tournament play begins on Monday (Sept. 30) at 9 a.m.

The tournament, which will be contested on the par-72, 6,164-yard layout at Eagle Crest, will consist of 36 holes on Monday and conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday (Oct. 1).

The 12-team field includes Central Michigan, Chicago State, Dayton, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Green Bay, Michigan, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Ohio, Purdue Fort Wayne, Western Michigan.

Cleveland State has participated in each of the first two Shirley Spork Invitationals, which is hosted by Eastern Michigan. The Vikings finished second in the team standings last season led by Madison Butler who tied for third in the medalist standings.

This will mark the Vikings fourth tournament of the fall season after previously competing in the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, the Cardinal Classic and the Phoenix Invitational.

Butler, Ashley Knight, Grace Zimmerman, Meg Rossouw and Lexi Knight will compete for the Vikings during the two-day tournament.

Butler leads the Vikings after the first three tournaments of the fall with a 75.9 scoring average. She fired a career-best round of 68 at the Phoenix Invitational and was fifth at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational.

Ashley Knight ranks second on the team with a 76.3 scoring average, which included a seventh-place finish at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational.

Zimmerman is off to a solid start to her fall season with a 77.6 scoring average. She carded a career-best round of 73 in the final round of the Cardinal Classic.

Rossouw is fourth on the team averaging 79.5 strokes per round. She tied for 19th at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational and posted a career-best round of 71 at the Phoenix Invitational.

Lexi Knight will be making her second appearance of the fall season in the lineup. She participated in the Roseann Schwartz Invitational to open the season and posted rounds of 82-78.
