Vikings to Compete at Horizon League Championship This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team returns to action at the Horizon League Championship which runs from Friday through Sunday (April 22-24) at the Mission Inn Resort at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

This will be CSU's first event since the EKU Colonel Classic on April 1-2 after the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational (April 9-10) was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Vikings finished third at last year's league championship, which was CSU's best finish at the league championship since a runner-up showing in 2009.

Last year, CSU shot a final round 322 to move up from sixth place to finish third. Youngstown State claimed the team title with a 926 total, 11 shots ahead of runner-up Oakland. CSU was third and was followed by Green Bay and UIC (983) who tied for fourth, while Valparaiso was fifth at 987 and Detroit seventh at 1,002.

Allyson Hackman led the Vikings over the three-day tournament, tying for sixth place to earn a spot on the all-tournament team for the third straight year. She is attempting to become the first player in school history to be named to the all-tournament team four times.

Hackman leads the Vikings this year with a 78.9 scoring average, which is the third lowest average in school history for a season. Hackman's career average of 79.1 is the lowest in program history as she is the only player to average under 80.0 for a career.

This year, Hackman has posted three top-five finishes, including a runner-up showing at the Butler Invitational in March.

Freshman Rayna Oosterhuis is second on the team with a 79.4 scoring average, while sophomore Sophie Kelner (81.0), senior Madison Lomas (85.1) and sophomore Emily Turski (86.7) round out the lineup.

The Vikings are averaging 322.5 per round this year, the third lowest in school history.

The winner of the Horizon League Championship will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals which will run from May 5-7 in Baton Rouge, La., Shoal Creek, Ala., Bryan, Texas, and Stanford, Calif.

The selection show is slated for Monday (April 25) at 6:00 pm on the Golf Channel.
