Vikings Return to Action at Kiawah Island Spring Classic

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team returns to action at the 2016 Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic from Sunday through Tuesday (Feb. 28-March 1).

Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the tournament has expanded to 41 teams in this year's field and will be played for the second time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C. Two courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament including Oak Point.

After 36 holes of play, the Top 20 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 21-41 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.

Osprey Point is a par-72, 5,964-yard layout, while Oak Park is a par-72, 5,901-yard course. Teams will tee off between 9:15 and 12:00 pm on Sunday and Monday with a shotgun start at 9:00 am on Tuesday.

In addition to host College of Charleston, this year's field includes Bethune-Cookman, Boston College, Boston University, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, The Citadel, Cleveland State, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, East Tennessee State, Elon, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Iowa, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Longwood, Loyola, Marshall, Mercer, Morehead State, North Florida, Old Dominion, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, Samford, SCAD, Southern Mississippi, St. John's, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, Towson, Troy, UNCG, USC Upstate, Western Kentucky and William & Mary.

This will be the first tournament of the spring for CSU. The Vikings opened the spring season with a dual match against Youngstown State in Florida on Feb. 7, falling 331-340. Playing at the challenging Rio Pinar GC on a cool, windy day in Orlando, the Vikings received a team-best score of 81 from freshman Rayna Oosterhuis who tied for medalist honors.

Allyson Hackman shot an 83, while Madison Lomas fired an 86, Emily Turski shot 90 and Sophie Kelner had a 91.

Hackman leads the team with a 77.4 scoring average, while Oosterhuis is close behind at 78.8.

The Vikings return to action on March 21-22 when CSU competes in the Butler Spring Invitational.
