Women's Golf Places Three on WGCA All-America Scholar Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team placed three student-athletes on the 2014 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar team that was announced on Wednesday morning.

Earning spots on the team were senior Shelly Ford, junior Colleen Miller and sophomore Allyson Hackman.

Ford, a recent graduate with a 3.87 GPA as a Health Science/Pre-Physician Assistant major, ranked second on the team with an 80.6 scoring average, the seventh lowest in a season in school history. She shared medalist honors at the Butler Spring Invitational in March, becoming just the third player in school history to win an event. Ford recorded two top-five finishes and three top-10's this year, including a ninth place showing at the league championship.

Hackman, who posted the third lowest scoring average in CSU history this year (79.5), earned first team All-Horizon League honors and was named to the Horizon League all-tournament team after tying for fourth place. It was her second straight appearance on the all-tournament team. Hackman posted two top-five finishes and four top-10's this year and was CSU's top finisher in five of the 10 events this year. She carries a 3.67 GPA as a mechanical engineering major.

Ford and Hackman were recently named to the Horizon League Spring All-Academic team.

Miller, who carries a 3.89 GPA as an Operations and Supply Chain Management major, posted an 85.0 scoring average this year. She had one top-20 finish with a season-low round of 80 at the CSU Invitational. Miller also had a strong showing at the MAC Match Play, posting a 1-1-1 record to open the spring season.

The criteria for selection to the team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with honorees needing a minimum grade point average of 3.50. A total of 664 women's collegiate golfers were recognized this year.
