CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team will open the 2012 fall season when the Vikings compete at the Bucknell Lady Bison Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 8-9).

The event will be played at the par-70, 5,863-yard Bucknell G.C.

At last year's event, the Vikings opened with a school-record round of 314 en route to a ninth place finish.

"We are excited to get the season underway," head coach Steve Weir said. "The girls had a good summer and have been working hard over the last few weeks. We have a lot of experience on this year's squad with everyone back from last year and I can't wait to see what this group is capable of accomplishing this year."

Wier will send out seniors Ariel Sparrow and Lisa Barber, junior Madeline Kaminski, sophomore Colleen Miller and freshman Allyson Hackman this weekend.

The senior duo of Sparrow and Barber will be counted on to provide leadership with their experience. Sparrow, a first team All-Horizon League selection as a sophomore, posted the fourth lowest scoring average in school history last year (81.6) and was CSU's top finisher in six of the 10 events.

Barber ranked third on the team with an 84.0 scoring average last year and fired her low round of the year, a 76, in the second round of the Bucknell Lady Bison Invitational. In fact, all three of her rounds were in the 70's (77-76-79 - 232) as she tied for 22nd place.

Kaminski had a solid sophomore season, ranking second on the team with an 83.0 scoring average, while Miller posted an 84.2 scoring average, playing all 10 events as a freshman.

Hackman will be getting her first taste of collegiate golf this weekend after averaging 38.1 per nine holes as a senior last year and earning medalist honors at the conference championship.

After Bucknell, the Vikings return to action at the Chicago State Invitational on Sept. 17-18.
