HINCKLEY, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a final round 313, the second lowest round in program history, and finished second at the CSU Invitational that concluded on Tuesday at the par-73, 6,107-yard Pine Hills G.C.

The Vikings were just one shot shy of equaling the school-record round of 312 set at last year's final round of the Zippy Invitational.

CSU opened the tournament with a round of 320 yesterday, finishing with a 36-hole total of 633.

Bowling Green shot a final round 309 to win the team title over CSU by three shots at 630. St. Francis (PA) was third at 639 and was followed by Chicago State (644), Robert Morris (649), Youngstown State (650) and Niagara (667).

"We were right there with a chance to win the tournament and you can't ask for anything more than that," head coach Steve Weir said. "This was a great learning experience for us and hopefully we will be able to build on this in the future. We got off to a great start today, but threw away a few shots down the stretch."

Ariel Sparrow shot a final round 79 and finished as the runner-up of the tournament at six-over-par 152 (73-79). She finished one shot behind medalist Ann Colligan of Bowling Green who shot rounds of 78-73 (151).

Madeline Kaminski fired the second lowest round of the day with a 75 and finished fourth at 155 (80-75). Shelly Ford also notched a top-20 finish, tying for 14th place after rounds of 83-78 (161).

The Vikings will be out of action until Oct. 8-9 when they compete at the Butler Bulldog Invitational.
