HINCKLEY, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Ariel Sparrow fired an opening round 73, tying her career-low round, and leads after the first day of the Cleveland State Invitational at the par-73, 6,107-yard Pine Hills G.C.

Sparrow's round is tied for the second lowest round in program history, topped only by a 72 byKatie Broere in 2008. Sparrow shot a 36 on the front nine and 37 on the back.

Her round of 73 helped the Vikings shoot 320 and has CSU in second place out of seven teams at the event.

St. Francis (PA) is five shots ahead of CSU at 315, while Bowling Green is in third place, one shot behind the Vikings at 321. They are followed by Chicago State (323), Youngstown State (327), Robert Morris (331) and Niagara (343).

Sparrow will enter the final round with a two-shot lead over Bowling Green's Amy Ruthenberg who shot a 75 today.

Madeline Kaminski shot an opening round 80 and is in 12th place. Shelly Ford is tied for 21st place after an 83, while Allyson Hackman is tied for 29th following an 84. Micaela Cronin is in 38th place after a first round 89.

Playing as an individual, Lisa Barber is tied for 14th place at 82, while Colleen Miller is tied for 21st place after an 83.

The final round will be played on Tuesday, starting at 9:00 a.m.
