Simply put, Kailey Klein is one of, if not the top player in the Horizon League and Cleveland State history. The Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year, Klein is known by those in the league as one of the top scorers from any position on the floor and has also dramatically improved her defense during her time at CSU. A highly accomplished scorer, Klein could best be described as a playmaker who scores, but also gets her teammates involved when she faces double and triple teams. She can score from the inside, outside and the foul line, while also giving CSU a rebounding and defensive presence on the wing.

Career

• Ranks fourth on all-time scoring list at CSU with 1,514 points, just 338 shy of school record and 486 short of becoming just the third player in Horizon League history to score 2,000 career points.

• Has started 81 consecutive games after serving as a reserve for her first 13.

• Is 453-of-570 at the free throw line, ranking first in both categories.

• Has 70 career double digit scoring games including 37 games with at least 20 points and a school record six 30-point contests.

• Is the only player in CSU history to play at least 1,000 minutes in two different seasons (1,127 in 2008-09 and 1,099 in 2007-08).

2008-09 - Junior Season

• Named to All-Horizon League first team for the second straight season and was tabbed as league Co-Player of the Year.

• Became just third player in school history to earn league Player of the Year honors and the first since Audra Cook in 1999-00.

• Started all 32 games, averaging a league-leading 35.2 minutes per contest.

• Led team and ranked second in league scoring (16.9), becoming just the third player in school history to lead the team in scoring each of her first three seasons.

• Ranked third in the league in free throw percentage (.810), fourth in three pointers made (1.7), sixth in assists (3.1) and 10th in three-point percentage (.362).

• Made 4-of-5 from three point, scoring 21 points vs. UIC (3/11) in league quarterfinals.

• Had 18 points against Butler (3/7).

• Scored 14 points with 11 rebounds for sixth career double-double at Loyola (2/28).

• Dished out career-high seven assists at UIC (2/26).

• Totaled 24 points and five boards against Detroit (2/21).

• Had 26 points, going 5-of-6 from the three-point at Green Bay (2/27).

• Had 18 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Loyola (1/29).

• Went 8-for-12 from the field for 23 points at Youngstown State (1/17).

• Hit 10-of-19 shots, including 4-of-8 from three-point, scoring 27 points at Butler (1/3).

• Scored 25 points against Niagra (12/21), going 14-of -14 from the free throw line. It was the second most free throws made in school history without a miss (Deb Taylor went 15-for-15 in 1990). Also had nine boards and six assists.

• Scored season-high 30 points at then No. 18 Ohio State (12/15), making 10-of-23 shots.

• Went for 27 points and eight rebounds against Kent State (12/26).

• Tallied 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists vs. Eastern Michigan (11/18), going over the 1,000 career point mark in the game.

2007-08 - Sophomore Season

• Selected to All-Horizon League first team and was runner-up as league Player of the Year.

• Scored CSU single-season record 654 points, breaking the old mark of 635 by Dianne Foster (1982-83).

• Ranked second in the league in scoring (19.8), fifth in free throw percentage, eighth in rebounding (6.1), 12th in assists (3.20) and steals (1.70), 13th in field goal percentage (.457) and 15th in three-pointers (1.36).

• Reached double figures in scoring in 30-of-33 contests.

• Set school-records with 211 free throws made and 253 free throws attempted.

• Tied career-high with 33 points on three occasions, at Detroit (2/16), at Valparaiso (2/2) and at Alaska Anchorage (11/20), going a combined 33-for-48 from the field in the three games.

• Led team with 16 point, five rebounds and four assists at Stanford in first round of NCAA Championship (3/22).

• Most Valuable Player of Horizon League Championship after scoring 67 points in three games, the second highest point total in tournament history.

• Averaged 22.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in three league tournament contests.

• Scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in league championship game against Wright State (3/16).

• Tallied 18 points in league semifinal win over Green Bay (3/14).

• Registered a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds in league tournament quarterfinal win over Butler (3/12).

• Had 25 points - going 11-for-11 effort at the free throw line - and 13 rebounds at Loyola (3/8).

• Scored 28 points at UIC (3/6), going 17-of-21 from the line. The 17 free throws made are a school-record, while the 21 attempts are tied for the single-game school record.

• Set career-high by playing all 40 minutes at Detroit (2/16), scoring 33 points.

• Had first career double-double with 30 points and 10 boards in a win over Youngstown State (1/26).

• Notched 22 points and eight rebounds in a win at Niagara (12/17).

• Selected to Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team after averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two games.

• Three-time Horizon League Player of the Week pick (Dec. 31, Jan. 28, Feb. 3).

2005-06 - Freshman Season

• Became the first CSU women's basketball player to earn Horizon League Newcomer of the Year award and was chosen to the league all-newcomer team.

• Became just the fifth freshman in program history, and the first since Debra Taylor (1987-88), to lead the team in scoring (11.0 ppg).

• Finished 14th in the conference in scoring and 10th in free throw percentage (.711).

• Poured in 26 points at Western Michigan (12/7/06) in just 26 minutes of action after scoring just 14 points combined in the first nine contests of the season.

• Amassed 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists versus UIC (2/3/07).

• Scored 33 points, including 4-of-7 from three-point land, to go along with eight boards in 38 minutes at Detroit (2/8/07).

• Recorded 26 points and a career-best nine rebounds at Butler (3/3/07).

• Tallied double-digits a team-leading 13 times, including the final three contests and nine of the final 11 games.

High School

• Unanimous first team all-state selection as a senior after averaging 24.0 points a game.

• Third runner-up for Illinois Ms. Basketball.

• Scored a conference record (boys or girls) 2,496 career points and pulled down 1,188 rebounds.

• Named Peoria Journal Star Player of the Year her final two seasons.

• Averaged 22.0 points as a junior en route to earning all-state honors from the Chicago Sun-Times (first team), Associated Press (second team and IBCA (third team).

• Scored 58 points in a game as a sophomore.
