Michael Scruggs

Michael Scruggs returns for his second season with the Cleveland State women’s basketball team during the 2016-17 season, and will serve as an assistant coach on the Viking sideline.

Scruggs joined the Cleveland State coaching staff following a three-year stint at LSU where he served as the director of video operations, as well as an interim assistant coach for the 2014-15 season. While with the Lady Tigers, Scruggs was part of two NCAA Sweet 16 teams during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. After transitioning to an interim assistant coach for the 2014-15 campaign, Scruggs was responsible for scouting and recruiting, in addition to his video operation duties.

Prior to his time at LSU, Scruggs was an assistant coach at Samford University, helping the Bulldogs claim their second straight Southern Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth during the 2011-12 season.

Scruggs got his start in collegiate coaching at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he served as a graduate assistant for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. During his time at Chattanooga, the Lady Mocs won the 2012 Southern Conference title and earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Scruggs is a 2008 graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in sports management. During his time at Tennessee, Scruggs was a practice player for the Lady Vols basketball team.
