Beth Couture

Beth Couture joined the Cleveland State women’s basketball staff prior to the 2015-16 season, and will be entering her 27th year of collegiate coaching.

Couture comes to Cleveland State following head coaching stints at Converse College and Butler. Couture spent the 2014-15 season as the head coach at Converse, a Division II program in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and spent 12 years as the head coach at Butler (2002-03 through 2013-14).

During her tenure at Butler, Couture led the Bulldogs to successful stints in the Horizon League, Atlantic 10 Conference, and the Big East Conference. During her time, she led the Bulldogs to four 20-win seasons, two conference championship games, and five trips to the WNIT.

Couture became the all-time winningest coach in Butler women’s basketball history during the 2009-10 season, and mentored 15 Bulldogs to all-league honors, including the 2009-10 Horizon League Player of the Year and a pair of Horizon League Sixth Players of the Year.

Couture’s first coaching stint came at Presbyterian College – a then-Division II program in Clinton, South Carolina – where she spent 13 years leading PC to six NCAA postseason appearances, four South Athletic Conference tournament titles and three South Atlantic Conference regular season titles. Under her guidance, the Blue Hose earned 10 all-league honors, including three SAC Players of the Year and two SAC Freshmen of the Year. Throughout her tenure, Couture led PC to eight 20-win seasons, and was a four-time SAC Coach of the Year honoree.

Not only has Couture been successful on the sidelines, but she was also a standout on the court at Erskine College, where she was named a Kodak All-American during her senior season. Couture was a two-time District 6 Player of the Year, four-time Erskine Most Valuable Player, and scored over 2,000 points during her collegiate career. For all of her accolades, she was inducted into the Erskine College Hall of Fame in 1989.
