Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Falls At Toledo In WBIT First Round, 76-68

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team had its season come to an end Thursday, falling at Toledo in the first round of the WBIT, 76-68. The Vikings finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 29-6 overall record, their third straight 20-win season.

Game Stats
-Three Vikings finished the game in double-figures, led by Mickayla Perdue with 31. Jordana Reisma added 13 and Colbi Maples chipped in 10.
-Faith Burch grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds, while Carmen Villalobos added seven boards and Colbi Maples recorded six.
-As a team, the Vikings tallied 15 assists on the night, including four from Mickayla Perdue and Faith Burch.

Game Notes
-Mickayla Perdue recorded her 15th 20-point game of the season after finishing with 31 points against Toledo.
-After grabbing 10 rebounds on the game, Faith Burch recorded double-digit boards for the fourth time this season.
-Cleveland State's 29 wins on the year marked the second highest single-season win total in program history.
-Cleveland State was making its fourth straight postseason appearance.
-Thursday's WBIT appearance marked the third different postseason tournament for the Vikings under head coach Chris Kielsmeier (NCAA, WBIT, WBI).

The Game
Although the Vikings were able to take a 28-26 lead into the halftime break, Toledo opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run, swinging the momentum into the Rockets' favor and giving Toledo a 35-30 advantage. Cleveland State responded with four straight points, to close the gap to 35-34 before both teams traded baskets over the next few possessions, until a Mickayla Perdue three-pointer knotted the score at 43-43.

The Rockets were then able to once again extend their lead over the final minutes of the third quarter, taking a 51-46 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

Although Toledo opened the scoring during the fourth quarter, another Perdue three-pointer put the score at 53-49 UT early in the frame. A few possessions later the Vikings were able to come within two points at 54-52, before Toledo responded with a 7-2 run to regain control of the contest.

The rockets kept the momentum on their side throughout the closing minutes of the game then, coming away with the 76-68 victory.
