Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up 78-63 Victory Over Oakland On Health + Hoops Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team hosted its annual Health + Hoops game Thursday, picking up a 78-63 victory over Oakland in front of over 3,000 Cleveland area youth. With the win, the Vikings are now 22-4 on the season, and 13-2 against Horizon League opponents.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue led the Viking offense with 27 points, while Sara Guerreiro added 16, Jordana Reisma added 15 and Colbi Maples chipped in 13.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
-Cleveland State shot 50-percent from the floor on the game, including a .700 clip during the fourth quarter.
-The Viking defense recorded 12 steals, forcing Oakland into 15 turnovers.

Game Notes
-With 15 points and 10 rebounds on the game, Jordana Reisma recorded her third double-double of the season.
-Mickayla Perdue tallied her 12th 20-point scoring performance after finishing with 27 points against Oakland.
-Thursday's win improved Cleveland State to 14-0 at home this season, and kept the Vikings at the top of the #HLWBB standings.

The Game
After gaining an 18-12 lead after the first 10 minutes of play, the Vikings were able to extend their lead on the first possession of the second quarter, as a Jordana Reisma layup put the Vikings up 20-12. Both teams then traded baskets over the next few minutes, until Oakland was able to go on a 9-2 run to tie the score at 24-24 midway through the frame.

Cleveland State responded with a Mickayla Perdue three-pointer to regain the advantage, before back-to-back baskets from Reisma and Perdue extended the Viking lead to 31-24 at the 3:59 mark. The Vikings then closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run, taking a 38-29 lead into the halftime break.

The two teams played an evenly matched third quarter then, as the Vikings had to once again withstand an Oakland run, taking a slim 53-50 edge into the final 10 minutes of play.

Cleveland State was able to swing the momentum into its favor over the first few possessions of the fourth quarter, as a 6-0 run over the first 2:02 put the Vikings up 59-50 on a Perdue layup. Although the Grizzlies were able to stop the Viking scoring run on their next possession, Carmen Villalobos answered with a layup and three-pointer, putting the Vikings up by double-digits at 64-54 midway through the frame.

The Vikings were then able to control play throughout the rest of the quarter, pulling away with the 78-63 victory to remain perfect at home this season.
