Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Earns 70-60 Victory At Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Cleveland State women's basketball team got back in the win column Wednesday, picking up a 70-60 victory at Purdue Fort Wayne in a midweek matchup. With the win, the Vikings are now 19-4 on the year, and 10-2 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue led the Viking offense with 20 points, while Colbi Maples added 17 points and Jordana Reisma chipped in 12.
-Carmen Villalobos grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Jordana Reisma posted seven boards.
-The Vikings shot 52-percent from the field, including a .600 clip during the fourth quarter.
-Cleveland State combined for seven blocked shots on the game, including three from Jordana Reisma and two from Carmen Villalobos and Paulina Hernandez.

Game Notes
-With 20 points on the game, Mickayla Perdue notched her 10th 20-point game of the season and fourth straight.
-The seven blocked shots marked a season-high tying mark for the Vikings.
-With the win at Purdue Fort Wayne the Vikings have now recorded 10+ #HLWBB wins for the third straight year.
-Wednesday's game was the final game of a three-game roadswing for the Vikings.

The Game
After holding an 18-14 lead following the first 10 minutes of play, the Vikings were able to get on the board first during the second quarter, with a pair of Paulina Hernandez free throws giving CSU a 20-14 edge less than one minute into the frame.

Cleveland State then slowly built its lead over the next few minutes, until back-to-back baskets from Jordana Reisma and Mickayla Perdue gave the Vikings a double-digit lead at 27-17 with 5:12 left on the clock. The Vikings were able to hold their lead over the final part of the second quarter, with a pair of Perdue layups sending CSU into the halftime break with a 35-24 advantage.

The Vikings extended their lead to start the third quarter then, as a Carmen Villalobos layup at the 8:57 mark put the Vikings up by 13 at 37-24, while Cleveland State then held a double-digit lead throughout the majority of the frame. After Purdue Fort Wayne was able to trim the lead to single digits at the 4:20 mark, a Perdue three-pointer and layup on ensuing possessions regained a 48-34 lead for the Vikings.

Reisma added on to the CSU lead with a layup at the 2:26 mark, before a Perdue free throw stretched the run to 8-0, putting the Vikings up 51-34. The Vikings then closed the frame with a 51-39 edge.

Cleveland State was then able to maintain control throughout the fourth quarter, including a 5-0 run midway through the frame from Colbi Maples and Villalobos, going up 62-46 at the 6:38 mark. The Vikings were then able to hold off a late Mastodon run, coming away with the 70-60 victory.
