Cleveland State Women’s Basketball’s Guerreiro Set To Play For Portugal National Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball senior Sara Guerreiro has been selected to play for the Portugal National Team in the FISU Summer World University Games as announced by the Portuguese Basketball Federation. 

Guerreiro is part of a 12-member team that will compete in Chengdu, China July 28 – August 8. After spending the last month training and competing with the national team, Guerreiro was announced as an official member of the final roster late last week. 

"This is such an incredible experience for Sara, I'm proud of the work she has been putting in on the court to earn the honor of playing for her country," head coach Chris Kielsmeier said. "Our entire program is so happy for her, and we can't wait to follow along with her journey and cheer her on!"

The Portugal National Team will open group play against China on Friday, July 28, before taking on Poland on Saturday, July 29. The medal stage will then begin on Tuesday, August 1. 

Guerreiro, who averaged 4.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game last season, will be entering her second year with the Vikings during the 2023-24 campaign.
