PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out the 2022-23 campaign Saturday, falling in a 76-59 decision at Villanova in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Vikings finish the year with a 30-5 overall record.

Cleveland State was making its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2010.

Ngwafang grabbed a team-best seven rebounds while Brittni Moore added five boards.

The Vikings finished with seven steals, including three from Carmen Villalobos.

The Cleveland State defense forced Villanova into 16 turnovers on the day, turning these miscues into 19 points.

The Vikings, who were playing as the No. 13 seed, earned their highest seed in program history after capturing the 2023 Horizon League Tournament title earlier this month.

Saturday's matchup against Villanova marked the first meeting between the two teams in program history.

Cleveland State finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 30-5 overall record, setting a program-record for wins in a single season. Included in the Vikings' overall record was a 17-3 record against Horizon League opponents, which also marked a single-season best.

During the year the Vikings set single-season records for Points (2,592), Free Throws Made (599), Blocked Shots (138), and Consecutive Wins (16).

Destiny Leo finished her junior campaign ranked 11th on the CSU Scoring List with 1,433 total points, while she sits at the top of the CSU Career Record Book in Three-Point Field Goal Percentage (.388 (217-559)) and Free Throw Percentage (.903 (327-362)). With Saturday's 25 points, Leo finished the 2022-23 campaign with 14 20-point games and notched 628 points on the year, one of just five Vikings all-time to record 600+ points in a season.

Gabriella Smith eclipsed the 1,000-point mark during Saturday's game, finishing right on the milestone after notching five against Villanova. Smith is the third Viking to reach the milestone this year, joining Leo and Brittni Moore.
