Cleveland State Women's Basketball Earns 87-49 Victory Over Wright State On Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out its regular season home slate Saturday, picking up an 87-49 win on Senior Day. With the win, the Vikings improved to 26-3 overall this year and 16-2 in Horizon League play.

GAME STATS
* Amele Ngwafang led the Vikings with 25 points on the day, while Brittni Moore added 15 points, Destiny Leo chipped in 12 points and Deja Williams added 11.
* Brittni Moore grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds, while Faith Burch recorded seven boards, and Amele Ngwafang recorded six boards.
* The Vikings shot 53-percent from the floor on the day, including a .615 clip during the first quarter.
* Cleveland State's defense finished with 12 steals on the day, including three from Brittni Moore.
* The Vikings forced Wright State into 19 turnovers, turning the miscues into 29 points.

GAME NOTES
* All six available seniors that were honored Saturday got in the scoring column.
* With 25 points on the day, Amele Ngwafang recorded her third 20-point game of the year, and tied her career-high.
* Brittni Moore recorded her third straight double-double after finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds against Wright State.
* Cleveland State recorded its 11th double-digit scoring game of the season after finishing with 12 against Wright State.
* The Vikings remained undefeated during the month of February with Saturday's win, improving to 7-0 this month.
* Cleveland State improved to 14-1 when playing at home this season.
* With the win Saturday, the Vikings recorded their seventh series sweep of the year.

THE GAME
After getting off to a slow start, the Vikings responded with a 12-0 run late in the first quarter, gaining a 23-15 lead on a Barbara Zieniewska layup with just over one minute left on the clock. The Vikings then closed out the frame with a 24-17 advantage, before holding the same seven-point lead at 38-31 heading into the halftime break following an even second quarter.

A Gabriella Smith steal and layup opened the scoring during the third quarter to extend Cleveland State's lead to 40-31, before both teams traded baskets over the next few possessions, until a Destiny Leo three-pointer at the 5:41 mark gave the Vikings a double-digit lead at 47-35.

The Vikings then extended their lead with a stretch of five straight points, as a Brittni Moore jumper put Cleveland State up 52-35 with 3:25 left in the frame. Cleveland State then closed out the quarter with a 21-point lead at 60-39, after closing the frame on a 8-2 run, and outscoring Wright State 22-8 during the 10 minutes.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the fourth quarter then, as a 10-0 run to open the frame put Cleveland State up 70-39 following a Deja Wiliams and-one play. Although Wright State was able to stop the CSU scoring run on their next trip down the floor, the Vikings answered with another 9-0 run, to put the score at 79-42 on a Faith Burch jumper.

Cleveland State then controlled play throughout the final minutes of the contest, coming away with the 87-49 victory.

The Vikings will close out the regular season next week, beginning with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Green Bay on Thursday, February 23.
