Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Drops First #HLWBB Contest Against Green Bay

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out its current four-game homestand on Saturday, dropping an 82-65 contest against Green Bay. With the loss, the Vikings snapped their program-record 16-game win streak, while they now stand at 16-2 overall and 7-1 in Horizon League action.

GAME STATS
· Gabriella Smith recorded a team-best 10-points, while Amele Ngwafang and Sara Guerreiro both added nine and Brittni Moore chipped in eight.
· Amele Ngwafang and Barbara Zieniewska both grabbed seven rebounds on the day.
· The Vikings combined for 12 steals against Green Bay, including four from Gabriella Smith and three from Brittni Moore.
· Cleveland State finished with 13 assists, including five from Deja Williams and three from Destiny Leo.

THE GAME
Although the Vikings were able to get off to a strong defensive start over the first three minutes of the contest – recording three steals and a blocked shot – Green Bay responded with back-to-back baskets that gave them a 4-2 lead – an advantage that the Phoenix would extend to 12-5 midway through the frame.

Green Bay then went on to take a 21-11 lead into the second quarter, while the Phoenix would go on to hold a 39-24 advantage at the halftime break.

An Amele Ngwafang layup got the Vikings on the board first during the third quarter, but an 8-2 run from the Phoenix over the next 2:49 put Green Bay up 47-28 with 6:11 left on the clock.

Green Bay was then able to control play throughout the rest of the frame, taking a 63-39 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

Although the Vikings were able to outscore Green Bay 26-19 during the final frame, the Phoenix captured the 82-65 victory.

Cleveland State will return to the road next week, traveling to Wright State on Friday, January 20 and Northern Kentucky on Sunday, January 22.
