Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Earns 92-59 Victory Over IUPUI

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In a rematch of the 2022 Horizon League Championship game, the Cleveland State women's basketball team captured a 92-59 victory over IUPUI Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings extended their win streak to 15 straight games and now have a 15-1 record on the year and a 6-0 mark in #HLWBB play.

GAME STATS
· Amele Ngwafang led the team with 25 points on the game, while Destiny Leo added 21 points and Brittni Moore chipped in 15.
· Amele Ngwafang grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, while Brittni Moore recorded six boards and Sara Guerreiro and Carmen Villalobos both recorded four rebounds.
· The Vikings shot 55-percent from the floor on the game (36-for-65), including a .647 clip during the fourth quarter.
· Cleveland State combined for 17 assists on the game, including four from Gabriella Smith.
· The Vikings forced IUPUI into 20 turnovers, turning these miscues into 25 points.

GAME NOTES
· With her 25 points against IUPUI, Amele Ngwafang tied her career-high and recorded her first 20-point game of the season.  
· Destiny Leo posted her sixth 20-point game of the year after finishing with 21 on the day.  
· The .554 clip from the field marked the second time this season that Cleveland State has shot 50-percent or better from the floor.
· Sunday's game was a rematch of the 2022 #HLWBB Championship contest.
· Cleveland State is now 8-0 at home this season.
· With the win, the Vikings are now 6-0 to start #HLWBB play for the first time in program history.
· With the win, the Vikings extended their current win streak to 15 straight games – a program record.

THE GAME
Once again the Vikings were able to jump out to a quick lead, as they gained a 9-0 advantage on a Destiny Leo three-pointer just over two minutes into the contest, and then extended their lead to 16-2 on a Brittni Moore layup at the 5:04 mark.

Although IUPUI responded with back-to-back baskets, the Vikings were able to close out the frame with five straight points, earning a 21-6 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

The Viking defense was then able to hold IUPUI to single digits throughout the start of the second quarter, gaining a 20-point advantage on an Amele Ngwafang free throw at 28-8 with 7:30 left on the clock.

Cleveland State held its sizeable advantage throughout the rest of the frame then, taking a 46-18 lead into the halftime break after posting nine straight points to end the quarter.

Despite IUPUI holding a 22-20 advantage during the third frame, the Vikings responded by posting the first six points of the fourth quarter, gaining a 72-40 lead on a Ngwafang layup at the 8:35 mark.

The two teams then traded baskets, until back-to-back three-pointers from Deja Williams and Barbara Zieniewska gave Cleveland State an 80-47 advantage midway through the frame. The Vikings added on a pair of baskets from Sara Guerreiro and Ngwafang, extending their scoring run to 10-0, gaining their largest lead of the game at 84-47 with 5:05 left to play.

The Vikings were then able to hold this lead throughout the final part of the contest, as six straight points from Faith Burch over the final two minutes sealed the 92-59 victory for the Vikings.
