Vikings Open 2020-21 Season With 78-44 Loss At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team officially kicked off the 2020-21 campaign Saturday, dropping a 78-44 contest at IUPUI in the #HLWBB opener.

Game Stats
· Isabella Geraci led the Vikings offensively with 12 points, while Taylah Levy added 10.
· Isabelle Gradwell grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Barbara Zieniewska and Aminata Ly both grabbed five boards.
· As a team, the Vikings posted nine steals against the Jaguars, including two from Barbara Zieniewska and Isabella Geraci.
· Freshman Destiny Leo (7 pts) and Raevyn Harris (4 pts) both recorded their first collegiate points on Saturday.

Game Notes
· Barbara Zieniewska, Destiny Leo, Amaya Staton, ZaMaria Polk, Meghan Kenefick, Hannah White, and Raevyn Harris all made their Cleveland State debuts on Saturday.
· This marked Cleveland State's first game in 285 days, and its sixth time opening a season during the month of December.
· Isabella Geraci recorded a career-high with her 12 points against IUPUI, which included a 3-for-5 performance from three-point.
· Cleveland State's starting lineup against the Jaguars included Barbara Zieniewska, Destiny Leo, Aminata Ly, Taylah Levy, and Isabelle Gradwell.

The Game
The two teams played a back-and-forth first quarter, with Cleveland State gaining its first lead of the contest at the 9-8 mark following an Isabella Geraci three-pointer. Geraci's three-pointer capped off a 7-0 run for the Vikings, which also included a pair of baskets from Taylah Levy.

Although IUPUI was able to regain the lead on their next possession, the Vikings stayed within reach throughout the final few minutes of the frame, and grabbed a 16-15 lead as time was expiring on an Aminata Ly jumper.

The Jaguars were able to gain control of the contest during the second quarter, as they outscored the Vikings 17-6 during the frame to take a 32-22 advantage into halftime.

IUPUI was then able to hold a double-digit advantage throughout the majority of the third quarter, taking a 54-31 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

The Jaguars then controlled play throughout the final period, earning the 78-44 victory in Saturday's contest.
